If you’ve ever lived in Israel, then you know: It gets very cold here in the winter – indoors. With nine to twelve foot ceilings, and made from concrete and stone, these structures are meant to protect people from the heat, not the cold. So in the winter, when there are only a few hours of sunlight a day to stream in windows, the houses stay cold. And if you turn on the heat, which in most places isn’t central heating, but heaters – sometimes floor space heaters, sometimes heaters attached to the wall that sometimes function as air conditioners in the summer – the room heats up while the heater is on, but it doesn’t stay warm. You can’t get a base temperature – in many houses – that’s warm.

I bought this drum from Kristen “The Drum Lady” as a gift for myself many years ago. A few years before, I had somehow stumbled across her drumming class and got hooked on the djembe! Not that I was very good at it, but it’s very good. It makes great music, and I’m proud to help it do so.

Blog posts always sound better in my head. At that stage, I believe blog posts are just called thoughts. Thoughts don’t need to be organized or even interesting. I can follow them wherever they go – or not. Easy. Entertaining.

The Museum of Science and Industry was built on a large plot of land next to Lake Michigan. Its Beaux Arts style architecture holds it strong and memorable by the shore, and at least as much so in my mind.
